The drive up “the Mount” winds through native bush and beautiful houses with established gardens. Some gardens such as “Tieve Tara”, Forest Glade, Duneira and Ard Choille are open to the public, generally in autumn and spring.
The summit of Mt Macedon is the “Camels Hump”, a short walk to the lookout from the carpark is certainly worth the breathtaking view. Rock climbing is also popular at Camels Hump. Continue the winding drive to the Memorial Cross, again on a clear day the view is stunning. Take a moment to remember fallen soldiers. There are several designated picnic areas and “Top of the Range” café is located conveniently near the start of the short walk to the Cross. There are several walking tracks to enjoy the local flora and fauna.
The Mount Macedon Hotel is worth a visit, a cosy bar in the winter and a beer garden that is beautiful in warmer weather.
